Every year, around 2 500 like-minded people gather in a stunning location just outside Swellendam for a 4-day festival of music, nature and celebration. Up The Creek, perched on the banks of the Breede River, is South Africa’s second longest-running music festival – and arguably it’s most unique.
This intimate outdoor event – about a 2.5-hour drive from Cape Town – honours only the best of South African music talent, while providing superb facilities for a comfortable camping experience. Four days of celebrating only local music, nature, and a culture of authentic human connections that will remain with you forever. Only a Creeker knows the feeling.

So where is Up The Creek exactly?
Up The Creek is hosted at it’s namesake, a long standing river camp, about 23 kilometres outside of South Africa’s fourth oldest town, Swellendam. Perched on the banks of the Breede River overlooking a tranquil creek, this fantastic location is surrounded by the majestic mountain ranges of the Overberg district – less than a 3-hour drive from Cape Town or George in the Western Cape.

You’ll be stoked to know that Up The Creek caters for both! Choose between the festival’s four general campsite options, but first decide if you want to camp with your car or not:
- Camp with car/campervan: Hillbilly Campsite
- Camp without car: Hilton, Ellis Park and Country Club
Prefer to camp like a rock star? Then go for the more luxurious Heartbreak Motel at an additional cost.
